Out and about

Wow has it been hot this week. I know I’m a native Californian and everything, but I don’t like hot weather.

Much of our time this week has been spent looking for ways to beat the heat – so we haven’t ventured out much. On Wednesday, I spent the morning at Starbucks doing work (not blog work, unfortunately) and then met Pumpkin and Daddy-man at Wetherspoon for lunch (both are well air-conditioned!)

On Friday morning, I realised we had nothing in the house for breakfast (at least not for Pumpkin), so we had a cheeky brekkie at the Morrison’s cafe. We have lunch there fairly regularly, but I think she was bemused about our morning meal out. I also noticed while we were eating that she’s trying to say “banana” – she points at it now and says: “Buh buh buh”.

Fun at home

We’ve been pretty busy at home. Most of Wednesday afternoon was spent hiding in the bedroom (the room with the portable air conditioner). After it cooled off a bit, I filled a tub with some water for Pumpkin to splash around in outside.

Saturday was the 4th of July, so we had a couple of friends over to celebrate with us (that is: eat lots of food). They have a seven-year-old daughter and she and Pumpkin had a great time.

Oh, and I finally managed to wash the enormous bag of Mega Bloks that I got from the charity shop back in like October. They’re scattered all over our floor now, but Pumpkin’s really enjoying them.

Her favourite thing to do with them is hand them to me and copy me when I say (and sign) “Thank you”. She has gotten really good at doing that sign and does it ALL the time now. I love it. 🙂

Oh, we also discovered Twirlywoos on CBeebies this week. She thinks the show is hilarious and giggles through each episode. Adorable

Time for me

On Thursday evening, Daddy-man took Pumpkin out for a while so I could do my second round of Mummy Workouts.

A full review will be coming soon, but it’s basically an online workout that you can do from home. I did it for the first time last week and couldn’t move for about three days.

I did much better this week though and even managed to do two sessions. The first was aerobics and strengthening. The second was stretching. I’m sure a half-hour of stretching played a big part in my lack of pain the next day!

It was lovely having that little bit of time to myself too. Pumpkin and Daddy-man were back by the time the second session started, so Pumpkin did it with me. She was definitely confused by what Mummy was doing in the hallway.

My favourite moment was…

During the stretching part Mummy Workouts, Pumpkin kept coming up to me and giving me kisses and cuddles. It was so sweet and I think she really enjoyed me being down on the floor with her – and it was a good reminder that I should do that more often.

  1. Looks like a fun week! You lucky thing having air-con in the bedroom!!! Good work on the signing, my little boy talks really well now but still often signs for drink and occasionally milk! We never managed to pick up more than the basics but I found it really helpful to communicate! #myweekataglance

    • Yes, our air conditioning has been wonderful – even if it is just one room. At least it means we can sleep better at night. The signing great and I think it has really helped communication – although she’s always telling me she wants milk. 🙂

  2. Busy week! The heat has been tough hasn’t it? I bet you just were dreaming about air con. Hope you managed to get some work done. Good on for the mummy workouts and so cute your little girly was giving you kisses. Helping you recover! Happy 4th July as well xx #myweekataglance

    • Thanks, lovely. Yes, that aircon unit was one of the best investments we’ve ever made – even though we only use it for a couple weeks each year.

The kisses definitely helped me recover. 🙂

  3. I love that you do this week last year in photos ! Well done you for doing your mummy workout this week! X

  5. Oh my goodness – Pumpkin in her 4th July outfit – ADORABLE!!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t like it that hot. I mean, sunny and warm is great but when it gets to 30oC I am utterly, utterly useless.

Look forward to hearing more about your mummy workouts, I haven’t done any exercise for ages and I’m feeling guilty about it.

    • Thanks for the compliment on her 4th of July outfit – it came from Grandma. 🙂

The Mummy Workouts has been great so far. I’m doing it for a few more weeks before I do the review. I think they’ll be giving me a discount to offer my readers too, so keep an eye out for that. 🙂
