Review and giveaway: Merino wool baby clothing

When I think of wool clothing, I normally think of itchy, static-ridden Christmas jumpers. Thick and bulky with tacky designs.

But, that’s not the whole story when it comes to wool. In fact, there are plenty of lovely wool products that are soft and comfortable to wear, such as the lovely bodysuit and bonnet that Pumpkin and I recently received from Delicate Dream.

The two items are made from Merino wool, which is known for its luxuriously soft texture and being breathable. It’s also supposedly resistant to stains, which is definitely something important with a weaning baby!

When I first picked up the bodysuit, I was surprised at how light it is – the fabric is actually very thin and I was worried that it wouldn’t be warm enough for this time of year. But, that’s the beauty of wool – it doesn’t take much to keep you warm.

Pumpkin seemed to like it, anyway.

I actually decided to use the bodysuit as a base layer under a little tunic top. The natural colour means it goes well with most of Pumpkin’s wardrobe and since it’s nice and stretchy, there’s plenty of room to grow.

We also gave the bonnet a quick go. It’s actually sized for a much smaller baby, so I’m offering it as a giveaway – see below. It is made from the same stretchy fabric as the bodysuit and the strings are a good length for tying it, without too much extra dangling down.

I popped the bonnet off after getting the pictures and Pumpkin wore the rest of the outfit all day. She seemed warm and comfortable, even though she insists on rolling around on our cold floors instead of on the warm mats and blankets that I’ve put down.

At dinner, she did get some food on the bodysuit – luckily the Merino wool is machine washable, so I’ll just pop it in with the rest of her clothes and it should be fine.

Delicate Dream offers a small, but very lovely selection of baby clothing made from Merino wool. I especially love the knitted jumper and the babygrow would be a gorgeous home-from-hospital outfit.

The items are a bit on the pricey side, especially since I’m used to buying cheap four-packs of bodysuits from high street shops. However for the quality and premium natural fabric the prices seem fair. The clothing would make a wonderful gift and I also think it would be nice to have a couple as wardrobe staples.

And now it’s time for my first giveaway! The bonnet is labelled as 38cm and I think it would probably fit a 0-3 month baby well – maybe up to six months, depending on the baby – but I can’t guarantee the fit: I’m terrible at judging sizes!
