1. She has figured out how to take things with her when crawling – we call it her puppy impression; 2. Selfie with Santa; 3. The cutest little Christmas pudding; 4. I let her choose which book to get at the BritMums Christmas meet-up book swap. She chose the one wrapped in a photo of Prince Harry – who we’re now referring to as ‘Future Uncle Harry’; 5. Her first photo with Santa (taken by Hocus Focus Photography); 6. Girls’ Night In on Friday started with salad bar and chicken from Morrison’s; 7. Girls’ Night In on Friday finished with a snuggle on the sofa while watching the Muppets’ Christmas Carol; 8. A thumbs-up for the Christmas display at Mini Montessori; 9. Out and about

It’s been a funny old week. Daddy-man was away in Berlin for most of the week – and Pumpkin and I were supposed to go to meet him on Wednesday morning. But, she’s been unwell and after a particularly rough Tuesday – there were lots of tears… and not just from the baby – I decided to stay home instead.

I’m sad that I missed the trip, as I was really looking forward to seeing the Christmas market. But I know it was the right choice. We’ve saved the spending Euros that the in-laws gave me for my birthday and have agreed to go somewhere for a few days early next year.

But, staying home meant we got to do other things instead. On Wednesday, we went to Mini Montessori. It’s not our normal day to go, but I felt like doing something instead of sitting home thinking about the missed trip to Berlin. And I’m so glad I did! I’d completely forgotten that Wednesday was the day of the Christmas party. We got there and there was Christmas music playing, mince pies during snack time and even a visit from Santa – with a photographer who took a brilliant photo of Pumpkin meeting St Nick for the first time.

On Thursday, we went to the BritMums Christmas meet-up. It was at the Imperial War Museum, which is very impressive. Since I was baby-wearing, I didn’t really feel up to wandering around the museum after the meet-up, but we got a free family pass to go see the Horrible Histories Spies exhibit, so we’ll go back as a family next weekend and take in the museum then.

Fun at home

Monday and Tuesday were work as usual – so the opposite of ‘fun’ at home. On Friday, I had planned to take Pumpkin to the playgroup at the local Children’s centre. But, we both fell asleep on the sofa while watching Tangled, and missed the playgroup entirely.

Later in the evening, I decided we’d have a Girl’s Night in. She still wasn’t feeling 100% and I wasn’t up to cooking. So we each got a salad bar from Morrison’s and I bought some of their ready-made roast chicken. On our way home, we also stopped at Gregg’s and got a chocolate-mint cupcake. It was a good meal and then we snuggled up to watch the Muppets’ Christmas Carol.

Time for me

I’ve posted on and off about trying to lose weight and it hasn’t been going well. I’d been trying to have a go at doing it on my own, but I’ve realised that I need more support than that. I need somebody to check in on me at LEAST once a week.

So, after studying the Slimming World schedule for local groups, I finally decided on a Saturday morning group. At first I thought losing my Saturday mornings would be awful, but I think it will work. There are three sessions, so if we have plans for the day, I can go to the early one, and if I want to sleep in (ha!) I can go to a later one. In any case, Daddy-man will be around to watch the baby normally.

That means that my time for me this week was at Slimming World. It was a bit scary going back – especially since I knew the weigh-in would be difficult (it was) – but it will be nice going to the group meetings each week.

My happiest moment was…

There were two this week – one was when Pumpkin met Santa. She was so intrigued by what was going on, and brave too! She never looked frightened or worried – and good grief, the photo is adorable!

The other one was at the BritMums event. Once we got settled, we wandered around the room, talking to the other women who were there – and out of the blue, she started waving at people! She has never shown any signs of waving before, but was smiling and waving at everyone she met. She even had the perfect little wrist action going – just like the Queen!

Next week I would like to try…

My poor blog has been really neglected this week, and I have a lot of posts I’d really like to write. So I’m going to attempt a post every day. It’s going to be hard with work commitments and a grumpy baby, but I need to get back into the habit and make time. They might not be examples of my best writing, but at least I’ll be blogging again…
