Review: Milton portable soother steriliser

Pumpkin’s old enough that she doesn’t really need things to be sterilised anymore.

But, she’s also doing a lot of exploring these days. Toddling along and dropping her dummy on the ground.

And, while I’m trying to convince her that she doesn’t need her dummy at all, she sometimes has other thoughts on the matter.

Especially when she’s just dropped it somewhere particularly disgusting. Like a public toilet or a gutter in central London.

You know, somewhere *extra* flavourful.

A place where you know that just rinsing the dummy off isn’t going to be enough.

That’s why I said yes when Milton asked me if I’d like to review their portable dummy steriliser.

It gives me a little more peace of mind for those occasions when the dummy ends up somewhere just awful.

The Milton Mini soother steriliser is a fairly simple little contraption. It comes in three colours and looks a little like a Poke-ball. Or a Christmas bauble.

As well as the ball, which screws open, it comes with two sponges, some sterilising tablets, a velcro strap and the instructions.

Using it is pretty easy, too.

Start by pouring some water in the bottom half of the ball.

And dissolve one of the tiny sterilising tablets in the water.

Meanwhile, soften the sponges under some water. Place the solid sponge in the bottom half of the ball…

Then the sponge with the hole. Then, squish them around a bit to soak up the sterilising solution.

When you’re ready to sterilise a dummy, just place it in the hole…

Put the lid on and wait 15 minutes.

Once 15 minutes is up, the soother is sterilised. Remove the soother from the steriliser and pop it in baby’s mouth. You don’t need to rinse it off or anything.

You can use the steriliser to store an extra dummy as well – just remember to change the solution once a day.

I keep the steriliser attached to the pram, but it’s only for emergency situations, so everything is dry. If a pacifier does fall on the ground, I just need to add some water and a sterilising tablet and wait.

Since it’s empty, it means I also feel safe letting Pumpkin play with it – which she wants to do as soon as she notices it.

The Milton portable soother steriliser is a clever little contraption that I wish we’d had when Pumpkin was younger, as there were a few incidents where the dummy ended up on the floor when we were out. Especially before we got the dummy strap.

Now that she’s a bit older, it’s not going to be used as much, but I definitely think it’s good to have around. Just in case. And I would definitely recommend it to anyone with a child who uses a soother.
